FAQ

What experience level do I need to have to attend these workshops/clinics?

There is no experience level required for Sendtember, however all outdoor workshops/clinics related to climbing will operate under the assumption that you have climbed either indoors/outdoors at least a 2-3 times so that you have the basics down!

Do I need to be belay certified?

Nope!

What if it rains?

In this neck of the woods, it is very possible we will be dealing with rain :( We are keeping a close eye on the weather and if it does end up raining, all outdoor clinics will be moved to the Hive North Shore! We will send an email ahead of the workshops/clinics on our final decision for location. Admission to the gym will be covered <3

Who are these workshops/clinics for?

Women and gender-non-conforming (GNC) people who climb, have climbed, or want to climb!

What do I need to prepare/pack for these workshops?

We will send an official packing list out to everyone ahead of the workshops/clinics but generally for the outdoor workshops:

  • Food for the day (snacks and lunch)
  • Water!
  • Dress in layers! Who knows what the weather will do!
  • Climbing gear if you have it (harness, helmet, climbing shoes, and any other gear you'd like to bring)
  • Appropriate approach footwear for a very chill hike to Sully's Hangout (hiking boots, trainers/runners, etc.)
  • Optional: A camp chair that is easy to hike in and out

Nothing is required for Packing for Adventure 101 (maybe a notebook to take notes!)

Instructors

Keenan Gibson (They/He) ACMG App. Rock Guide - Keenan is a queer, non-binary climber, artist, lover of cats, and enjoyer of rocks of all types and sizes. They hope to help create and foster inclusive avenues into outdoor recreation that feel intentional, safe, and counter to present norms. Keenan is currently an ACMG Apprentice Rock Guide and Route Setter. They view their work as an opportunity to share movement, and to problem solve collaboratively within community. Although they love putting plastic onto walls, large traditional climbing objectives are what light their soul ablaze the most. Some may recognize Keenan from their involvement with the Project Pride Bouldering festival, taking place on unceded Skwxwú7mesh territory (Squamish).

Kinley Aiken (she/her) I’ve called Squamish home for over twenty years while climbing and guiding in the outdoor industry. Pursuing vertical adventures brings me joy! I’ve climbed on five continents, redpointing 12+ trad, 5.13 sport, climbed the Nose in a day, stood on top of 14000’ers, completed first ascents in B.C’s Waddington Range and perhaps my proudest achievement, balancing motherhood and climbing. One of my personal climbing goals is maintaining a positive growth mindset regardless of performance. When not guiding and coaching private clients, I instruct for Thompson Rivers University and the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides, Training and Assessment Program. I’m passionate about sharing my love and expertise of climbing with clients wherever they are on their climbing journey.

Dawn Park (she/her) I’m Dawn, a Korean-Canadian, Vancouver-based content creator who’s happiest outside—whether that’s running along the ocean, hiking up a mountain, or chasing powder in the winter. I share real moments from my time outdoors in beautiful BC, from epic views to the trail snacks I can’t live without. I hike, run, backpack, ski, and climb—and my goal is to help others feel excited and empowered to explore the outdoors too!
